Macarons and fruity pebbles? #TBT

During my extended stay in New Mexico between 2021 and 2022, I was able to enjoy a variety of desserts and sweets ranging from pueblo pies at the Indian Pueblo Kitchen to Flying Star Cafe’s massive éclair to epic ice cream sandwiches at Rude Boy Cookies. Another spot visited during that time was Sweet Cup, located along Wyoming Boulevard in Albuquerque, and this place was very cute.

Stepping inside, you are immediately met with adorable décor, a diverse drink menu, ice cream displays, and a variety of other desserts. There’s a large area right up front to wait in line and order, and plenty of seating.

The priority for me on this trip was boba but, then, I saw their macaron display.

When I worked in New York City, I used to frequent a place along 23rd Street that had quite the selection of macarons (they’re probably closed at this point). At Sweet Cup, while everything looked so amazing, there were two flavors that jumped out at me as I had yet to encounter them at other establishments: fruity pebbles and earl grey.

The flavors were great and the pastry itself was light. It’s tough to ignore the colors of the fruity pebbles and the tea essence from the early grey was very pronounced. These are definitely up there among the most enjoyable macarons.

Now, their drink menu is insane. They have original and classic tea, slushes, and coffee. So many to pick from and I had to go with something different: the lavender milk tea.

At the time, I was not familiar with floral flavors aside from rose (after indulging in a rose water macaron in Sydney) and had to give this a try.

The milk tea was nice. The drink is made with lavender, peach, honey, and non-dairy creamer, and it was a very pleasant. Not too sweet, and very mellow.

I loved everything about Sweet Cup and my only regret is not getting an opportunity to go back before leaving. There are still so many treats and flavors of tea to try. However, if I happen to find myself in Albuquerque again in the future, I am definitely coming back!
