Two of FC Barcelona’s stars made a trip to the United States to play in an international friendly against Brazil. Lionel Messi and Javier Mascherano, Captain and Vice Captain of the Argentina national team, joined the rest of the squad at Red Bull Arena, located in Harrison, NJ, two days before the big game for training — and the public was invited to watch.

Mascherano is from San Lorenzo and Messi is from Rosario, both located in province of Santa Fe.

A country with a glowing soccer history, it has run into a few hiccups as they try to reclaim past glory. A surprise knockout in the 2011 Copa América and a disappointing elimination in the quarterfinals of the 2010 FIFA World Cup have been examples of how such an exemplary array of talent find difficulty attaining organization without stable management.

2009 and 2010 Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi was recently offered the Captain position from new coach, Alejandro Sabella.
