Golden Gate

Located in downtown Las Vegas, along the Fremont Street Experience, the Golden Gate Hotel and Casino is the oldest and smallest hotels along the entertainment strip.

It is said the Golden Gate is where the first shrimp cocktail served in Las Vegas, In 1959, a shrimp cocktail cost 50¢. Today, coined “the best tail in town,” it is served in the hotel’s Du-Par’s Restaurant and Bakery for $2.99.

Since 1959, according to their website, more than 40 million have been served.

The casino was founded by partners Italo Ghelfi, Robert Picardo, Al Burante, Leo Massaco, and Dan Fioriro. The group were from the San Francisco area.
