The Lennon Wall (Hong Kong)

with one comment

A concept originating in Prague, where walls were covered with John Lennon-inspired images and Beatles lyrics, a similar edifice arose in the middle of the Occupy Central democracy movement in Hong Kong.

Walking down the closed streets in the, typically bustling, Hong Kong Central district, posters and banners hang all around, expressing support for Hong Kong’s democracy movement. One corner, in particular, is exceptionally colorful and attractive, it’s the Lennon Wall.

Protestors and visitors, alike, add post-it notes with messages of support along the Lennon Wall. Standing before it, it’s overhwleming all the sentiment expressed; and, standing on that corner, turn to the side, the lyrics “You may say I’m a dreamer / but I’m not the only one” hang from a nearby overpass.

Hong Kong’s youth continue to lead the movement for universal democracy.

Demonstration locations have also sprung up in Admiralty and Mong Kok.
