City Roos

Walking along Brisbane’s George Street, just outside the Queens Street Mall, a group of kangaroos can be seen loitering on the sidewalk. Created in 1999, sculptor Christopher Trotter installed the City Roos displays out of scrap metal.

Strategically placed in a busy pedestrian zone in Brisbane, the artist’s message is to remind people that humans need to share outdoor space with the native animals.

According to the Brisbane City Council website, “the sculptures are composed of found industrial metal and recycled materials which give a unique character to each kangaroo.”

Alongside the pictured kangaroo, there is another one standing by a tree and two relaxing on and near a bench.
