Buko Shake

A popular treat that can be found throughout the Philippines — everywhere from a mall kiosk to a street corner — buko, or young coconut, provides health benefits, refreshment for a warm day, and is an inexpensive treat.

Combining buko, ice, condensed milk, and a bit of simple syrup, it’s both a delicious and addictive cold delight. Plus, prices usually range between ₱30 and ₱50 (depending on size), that puts you back about 72¢ and $1.21 – the large size is typically one liter.

While the buko flavor is already so tasty, some kiosks offer flavor boosts for your shake.

Besides the taste, coconut is also said to be high in potassium and antioxidants.
