The site of the Hong Kong handover from the United Kingdom to China, the Wan Chai district is a heavily commercial area of Hong Kong. Along the water, Wan Chai is home to the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) and just outside is Golden Bauhinia Square and the reunification monument.

The Cross-Harbour Tunnel, the first in Hong Kong, was built in Wan Chai. Today, the Star Ferry operates two routes in and out of Wan Chai.
