Buko Pie

with one comment

Coconut Pie in the Philippines greatly differs from traditional Coconut Pie in the United States. In the United States, typically, the pie is made up of coconut meringue or custard as the filling for a Coconut Cream Pie. In the Philippines, Buko (young coconut) is the primary component and instead of baking it in a cream form, stacks of sliced coconut are mixed with condensed milk for the pie’s filling.

It is said to be healthier than Coconut Cream Pie.

The featured Buko Pie is actually an individual-sized version from Merci Pasalubong, a local bakery chain based in Bacolod City, Philippines.
