When you just don't know what to do with that stuff

Irish Hunger Memorial

leave a comment »

In the midst of Battery Park City, a monument of stone and grass stands out among the metallic buildings surrounding it.

At the corner of Vesey Street and North End Avenue, a memorial stands to raise awareness about the Great Irish Famine of the mid-19th century. The Irish Hunger Memorial features vegetation and landscapes reminiscent of Ireland; along with stone representing different counties.

The memorial was dedicated on July 16, 2002.
