Located on the northwest shore of Lake Ontario, Toronto is the largest city in Canada; the fifth most populous city in North America. The city celebrated its 175th anniversary on March 6, 2009.

The ciy was first purchased from the Mississaugas, established as the town of York, and in 1834 was named Toronto.

Throughout the late 20th Century, Toronto began to surge above Montreal as Canada’s most populous city. As the Quebec Sovereignty Movement came about, maybe companies relocated from Montreal to Toronto.
